Maintaining the Shrine

Maintaining the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal and Shrine grounds is a monumental task. With Saint Mary’s of the Barrens Church being more than 175 years old, much maintenance is needed each year to preserve the structural integrity and beauty of this national treasure dedicated to our Lady. The Shrine Grotto built during World War I is also showing signs of deterioration.

The white cross headstones in the Vincentian cemetery need cleaning each year from green algae that is attracted to them. There are hundreds of acres of ground to be maintained year round. In all these ways, and more, your generous gifts help us to honor our Blessed Mother and the Shrine by seeing to any structural or aesthetic issues as they arise. You are creating a lasting legacy for generations to come, and you are helping to make God’s fatherly love and Mary’s motherly concern a reality.
